A view of Beccles
THE Beccles & Bungay Journal was launched in 1933 and for more
than 70 years has been at the centre of life in the two Waveney
Valley towns as well as the neighbouring communities of Loddon and
Halesworth.
Over the decades, it has captured all the proud moments, joys and
concerns of the district.
More recently, as population has grown in one of the most delightful
rural areas of East Anglia, it has played a leading role in campaining
for the best in health, leisure and recreation for its readers,
old and new.
The paper also launched the Beccles & Bungay Challenge, bringing
its town main towns together in friendly rivalry in a series of
contests ranging from the Beccles-Bungay boat race to quizzes, darts,
Scrabble, beetle drives and football.
The close relationship with its readers has led to an award-winning
rise in circulation to the present weekly average of 7445 copies
(2006).
